چکیده

A Bernstein-Bézier basis is developed for H(div)-conforming finite elements that gives a clear separation between the curls of the Bernstein basis for the polynomial discretisation of the space H1, and the non-curls that characterize the specific H(div) finite element space (Raviart-Thomas in our case). The resulting basis has two distinct components reflecting this separation with the basis functions in each component having a natural identification with a domain point, or node, on the element. It is shown that the basis retains the favourable properties of the Bernstein basis that were used in [1] to develop efficient computational procedures for the application of the elements.

P1-Nonconforming Finite Elements on Triangulations into Triangles and Quadrilaterals

The P1-nonconforming finite element is introduced for arbitrary triangulations into quadrilaterals and triangles of multiple connected Lipschitz domains. An explicit a priori analysis for the combination of the Park–Sheen and the Crouzeix–Raviart nonconforming finite element methods is given for second-order elliptic PDEs with inhomogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions.

On the Stability and Convergence of Higher-order Mixed Finite Element Methods for Second-order Elliptic Problems

We investigate the use of higher-order mixed methods for secondorder elliptic problems by establishing refined stability and convergence estimates which take into account both the mesh size h and polynomial degree p . Our estimates yield asymptotic convergence rates for the pand h p-versions of the finite element method. They also describe more accurately than previously proved estimates the in...

Bernstein-Bézier Finite Flements on Tetrahedral- Hexahedral-Pyramidal Partitions

A construction for high order continuous finite elements on partitions consisting of tetrahedra, hexahedra and pyramids based on polynomial Bernstein-Bézier shape functions is presented along with algorithms that allow the computation of the system matrices in optimal complexity O(1) per entry.

Nonconforming elements in least-squares mixed finite element methods

In this paper we analyze the finite element discretization for the first-order system least squares mixed model for the second-order elliptic problem by means of using nonconforming and conforming elements to approximate displacement and stress, respectively. Moreover, on arbitrary regular quadrilaterals, we propose new variants of both the rotated Q1 nonconforming element and the lowest-order ...

Equilibrated residual error estimator for edge elements

Reliable a posteriori error estimates without generic constants can be obtained by a comparison of the finite element solution with a feasible function for the dual problem. A cheap computation of such functions via equilibration is well known for scalar equations of second order. We simplify and modify the equilibration such that it can be applied to the curl-curl equation and edge elements. T...
